With the recent concerns from
World Series of poker tournament players that the
Las Vegas World Series of poker tournament for ladies is redundant and
unnecessary, there has been much talk about doing away with the venerable
tournament as an outdated concept and simply conglomerate the genders into one
large player base. While this is not
actually detrimental to many players, it is somewhat annoying and many players
would prefer to see the women's and men's tournaments join together in one big
tournament. But, there has been much resistance
from unexpected sources, such as the female players who enjoy the World Series
of poker
tournament in Las Vegas
and the female only events that it sponsors.
With the ladies only events, there is much speculation as to what type
of draw and allure they have for the player.
In many cases, the attraction of these types of events has more to do
with the people that the player has to put up with at the poker table during
the tournament more than what type of ranking or competition that the player
faces. It is certainly a definite factor
that when setting at the women's table, the player will likely hear less coarse
language and foul talk from the other players at the Texas
Hold'em poker tournament table.
With the focus on doing away
with the ladies only part of the event, players have come out of the woodwork
defending the ladies World Series of poker
tournament event as a strong and profit generating method of bringing more
female players in to the table, an aspect of the regular Texas Hold'em poker
tournaments that is very often glossed over.
Less females play at these types of poker events when they are not
specifically aimed at the ladies playing poker demographic. With the mixed events, the male population
dominates and generally leaves very little room for competition, but in the
ladies only World Series of poker tournament events
such as Texas Hold’em and other types of poker, the ladies have first choice
and last choice, and do little more than compete against each other. With this focus on ladies only play; many
have claimed that this is discrimination.
These concerns have been largely brushed aside and the ladies only World
Series of poker Texas Hold'em tournament has survived for another year, despite
attacks from so many detractors.
