With all the attention that
the online poker rooms and casinos have received lately from the government in
their attempt to squash any attempts to generate revenue from Internet gaming
and gambling rooms, it is difficult to believe that the United States
government can actually have more legislation up their sleeve or waiting in the
wings. But unfortunately, this is the
case. As the online poker rooms and
casinos become more and more popular, the United States government makes more
and more effort to regulate them out of business, as the amount of legislation
and laws that are aimed towards hampering the abilities of online poker rooms
and casinos to do business in
the United States keeps increasing at an exponential rate. The latest in the battle against online poker
rooms and casinos is the taxation that has been discussed that will focus on
the online
poker room and Casino players, rather than the websites themselves.
This is the first incident of
the United States government
even considering targeting players rather than the establishment itself in the
extended effort to combat the online poker room and
Casino explosion in popularity in the United States. With this tax, leveled at online poker room
and Casino players, it becomes apparent that the United States government has at
least come around to the idea that there is a significant amount of tax revenue
available in these types of online poker rooms and casinos. Unfortunately, they are less than
enthusiastic about properly leveraging this source of revenue, and more
concerned with simply hampering the player's ability to participate.
Until the United States
government adopts a more reasonable and lenient approach to online poker rooms
and casinos, the full potential of these incredibly profitable moneymaking
devices will very likely go untapped.
Despite the obvious success of this type of business model in foreign
locations such as Antigua, Aruba and Costa Rica,
the United States
government simply is not concerned with trying to come to some type of
compromise and seems fixated on putting the multitude of online poker rooms and
casinos on the Internet out of business.
As long as the United States
government keeps fighting the online
poker rooms and casinos, the tremendous levels of income that could
potentially be garnered through these types of gambling and gaming websites is
completely squandered and benefits foreign countries rather than America.
