The Poker Players Alliance, the largest and most important poker lobbing organization in the world, is set to launch National Poker Week as an effort to promote the legalization of poker and to overturn anti-poker, anti gaming legislation implemented in the United States since 2006.

The poker week will run from July 19th to 25th, and will feature a series of meetings and rallies held around the country with the intention of sending a support message. Players and PPA member will also meet with lawmakers in Washington DC to speak about the possibility of approving a new legislation that will allow online poker sites top operate in the U.S.

"Our members - the poker players of America - are our best advocates to protect the future of poker. National Poker Week, with events in Washington, DC and across the country, is the PPA's way to make it clear to my former colleagues in the U.S. Congress that poker is important to voters and is here to stay" said PPA chairman Alfonse D'Amato said, who served as United States Senator for New York from 1981 to 1999.

A PPA delegation including state directors and professional poker players will travel to the capital during the week to lobby members of Congress and ask them to support pro-poker legislation. The PPA will send 30 of its State Directors to Washington, D.C. as part of National Poker Week. The State Directors will meet with their elected officials to raise support for legislation like HR 2266 and HR 2267. In addition, the crew will deliver a petition to U.S. President Barack Obama calling for exemption of online poker from the UIGEA. Over 200,000 concerned players have signed the PPA petition, which will be delivered to President Obama on July 22nd.
