World Poker Tour announces first tournament in Florida

The World Poker Tour has officially announced that it will make a stop in Florida in 2011 to play a new tournament schedule to run from from April 27 to May 3, 2011 at the Seminole Hard Rock casino in Hollywood, FL.

This is the first big event coming to Florida since the state legislators approved a new bill expanding the stake limits in poker games and tournaments. According to WPT, the tournament will be headlined by a $10,000 buy-in main event expected to draw hundreds of players from all over Florida, as well as some of the most recognized names in the professional poker industry.

Thanks to this new agreement with the Seminoles , the WPT will run at least one tournament per year for at least five years. The tournaments will be hosted at either the Hollywood or Tampa Hard Rock Casinos. The Seminole tribe, which also owns a several other casinos throughout the state, will offer players affordable satellites for the WPT main event at all of its properties.

The World Poker Tour Season Nine will begin airing in January on Fox Sports Network (FSN), with the new tournament at the Seminole Hard Rock going on air on either June or July, 2011.
